Fire Safety

Although Summit County is a high elevation environment, uncontrolled wildfire has increasingly become a major concern. Most residences, businesses and infrastructure is situated in the Urban-Wildland Interface, at significant risk for destructive wildfire.

The Forest Health Task Force is actively involved in wildfire safety education. We have regular monthly meeting presentations from U.S. Forest Service personnel, local fire agency and other experts on topics ranging from wildfire behavior to defensible space to emergency evacuation planning and response.
